There's an old saying that the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, but the second-best time is today.
I think this rule applies to lots of things, not just trees. I can't tell you the number of times a client has come to me, bemoaning the fact that they didn't do something in their business a long time ago, whether that's strategic planning, reorganizing their sales team, or firing a toxic employee.
My response to them? Better now than never.
Sure, it would have been nice to develop a strategic plan 10 years ago when you started your business, but it's certainly better to do it now than to never do it. And yes, firing Dave in sales five years ago could have saved you some serious HR headaches, but let's get it done now, so we aren't still dealing with it in another five years.
In other words, don't let the regret over not doing something a long time ago hold you back from doing it now. After all, NOW is the second-best time to do anything.
