#175: Good Enough

Man, the last few weeks have been busy. Like, 90-miles-an-hour-with-my-hair-on-fire busy. It truly feels like there isn't enough time in the day to do everything I need to do, as well as I'd like to do it.

So I'm not doing things as well as I'd like to. I'm doing things just good enough to get by.

To be clear, I'm not half-assing things. I'm simply letting go of the need to make everything "perfect" or "just so" and I'm cranking out work that's good enough to get me to the next step. I'm embracing the concept of improvisation. I'm preparing less and trusting my brain to get me the rest of the way there. I'm not agonizing over margin width on the workbooks I'm creating. I'm not parsing every word of every email I send 15 times. I'm not planning every meal in my house to the final morsel.

I'm simply getting shit done.

And you know what? It's working. My "good enough" is great. (Yours is, too, I bet.) My clients are still thrilled with the work product. My companies haven't fallen apart because I get stuff done right at deadline, instead of a week ahead. My family is just as happy with microwaved pulled pork as they would be with a gourmet dinner.

And, most important, I'm not making myself crazy trying to do everything perfectly.
